Trailside Elementary School

An updated elementary school prototype gives Zionsville students and educators a more engaging, flexible, and efficient environment that supports the evolving needs of teaching and learning.
Working closely with district educators, Fanning Howey reimagined the elementary school prototype originally developed in 2007, creating a design that reflects contemporary educational practices while allowing each school to establish its own identity. A redesigned entrance enhances the arrival experience and strengthens the school’s presence within the community.
The updated prototype incorporates technology-rich learning environments, additional large-group instructional spaces, and more efficient teacher work areas that support collaboration and productivity. The design team also master planned the site to accommodate both the new elementary school and a future academic building, ensuring the campus can grow alongside the district’s needs while maintaining a cohesive long-term vision.
