Fanning Howey Launches Sports & Recreation Design Studio, Hires Industry Leader Hannah Evwaraye to Guide Effort

DUBLIN, OH – August 11, 2025Fanning Howey, a nationally-recognized architecture and engineering firm, is proud to announce the formation of a dedicated Sports & Recreation Studio. This new design studio will serve higher education institutions and municipalities with a focus on creating high-impact, community-driven sports and recreation facilities. 

The launch of the Sports & Recreation Studio represents a strategic expansion of Fanning Howey’s long-standing commitment to designing environments that support life-long learning. Known for its legacy in K-12 school design, the firm is broadening its expertise to create facilities that serve people of all ages and strengthen community connections through sport, wellness, and recreation. 

To lead this initiative, Fanning Howey has hired Hannah Evwaraye, AIA, NCARB, NOMA, as Director of Sports & Recreation. Evwaraye brings a deep understanding of both the user experience and design excellence, with a professional background that includes projects on more than 20 campuses across the country. Her thoughts have appeared in industry publications like Athletic Business and Campus Rec Magazine, and she has served as a guest speaker at the 2024 AIA Women’s Leadership Summit.  

In her role as Studio Director, Evwaraye will focus on leading sports and recreation projects across Fanning Howey’s key geographic markets, including Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.  

A former Division I student-athlete, Evwaraye specializes in designing innovative, brand-driven environments that elevate both athletic and academic experiences. Her portfolio includes notable projects such as: 

  • Slater Family Ice Arena Improvements, Bowling Green State University 
  • Recreation and Wellness Center, University of Pittsburgh 
  • Women’s and Men’s Ice Hockey Arena, The Ohio State University 
  • Findlay Community Recreation Center, Cincinnati Recreation Commission

In addition to her leadership in Sports & Recreation design, Evwaraye is the current president of the Columbus chapter of the American Institute of Architects. She was recently named the recipient of the 2025 AIA Ohio Emerging Professional Award.
