Plumbing Designer
Fanning Howey is seeking a Plumbing Systems Designer to join our integrated Architecture and Engineering team. We’re a nationally recognized leader in architecture and engineering for learning environments, offering a collaborative workplace where innovation and technical quality thrive. This role is essential to delivering efficient, sustainable, and code-compliant plumbing system designs for a variety of K–12, higher education, and public sector projects. You will collaborate across disciplines to produce high-quality design documentation, support construction phases, and contribute to the firm’s technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop plumbing system designs—including domestic water, sanitary, storm, and special systems—aligned with project goals and architectural vision
- Conduct system sizing, perform load calculations, and select appropriate equipment based on client needs, building type, and sustainability targets
- Prepare and coordinate detailed construction drawings using Revit and AutoCAD, ensuring constructability and compliance with codes and standards (ASHRAE, ASPE, IMC, local regulations)
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants throughout design development and construction documentation phases to ensure integrated, holistic system solutions
- Support construction administration by reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, and conducting site visits to observe installation progress and resolve field issues
- Contribute to LEED or other sustainability-related initiatives by applying energy- and water-efficient design strategies
- Participate in BIM coordination meetings, manage clash detection processes, and ensure model accuracy across disciplines
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, technologies, and code updates, and support knowledge-sharing within the team
Qualifications:
- Associate’s, Technical, Trade School, or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, preferred
- 4–10+ years of plumbing design experience in an A&E or consulting environment
- Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) credential preferred
- Strong proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and general knowledge of fire protection systems is a plus
