Job Description:
Fanning Howey creates learning environments throughout the country with our team of architects, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects. The Corporate Marketing team supports this mission with branding, communications, go-to-market strategies, media relations, social media and graphics. We are looking for a creative and strategic marketing manager for our Indiana office to join our team as we embark on an ambitious plan for future growth. The ability to think strategically and execute tactically is key to success, as this position must know all about our clients, projects and competitors and put together marketing and BD plans to always strengthen the Fanning Howey brand and position.
As a member of the Indianapolis-based Corporate Marketing team, you will be integral in managing and supporting all business development and marketing functions needed to win work. This will include business development support, client event management, developing marketing campaigns, managing project photography and developing and producing winning proposals and interview materials.
This full-time salaried position will support primarily the Indiana office and work throughout the Midwest. Some light travel may be required.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Meeting Maestro: Client events are integral to business development and you will be responsible for planning a variety of events sponsored by educational entities or self-sponsored. As an event attendee, you will also represent the firm in a professional and knowledgeable way and do your part in creating client connections that will benefit the firm.
- Organizer Extraordinaire: Keeping both BD support and marketing responsibilities running concurrently takes an organized approach. You thrive in being organized and can create processes and systems to do so. Prioritizing and managing multiple tasks comes easily, and you thrive with a variety of things to do.
- Proposal Leader: Producing proposals means thinking strategically and creatively about how to differentiate the firm for short list success. You will have access to graphic design staff to make sure proposals always put our best foot forward. However, the buck stops with you in making sure all details are covered and that proposals are delivered on time.
- BD Sales Support: You excel at keeping client pursuits organized and assist our Project Executives and Business Developers in the realization of their capture plans and business development goals. This will include research, reviewing call reports and client information and a host of other things that help make business development function effectively and seamlessly.
- Love to Win: In developing winning proposals and interviews, you think strategically to develop ways to differentiate the firm and leave a lasting impression. You manage the process effectively to make sure that deadlines are met and interview teams are prepared, polished and poised to win.
- Writing Chops: You excel at writing and can quickly grasp any subject and write about it in a compelling manner. In addition, your eagle eye and command of English and the rules of grammar makes you a proof reader without reproach.
- Social Media Master: As the ideal candidate you will also be able to create content for the firm’s various social media platforms. You understand what drives engagement and you find compelling stories that highlight the firm’s dynamic work and culture.
- Steel Trap Mentality: Excellent organizational skills and record keeping make you the go-to person when others need information for firm surveys, statistics, etc. It’s your job to know and stay on top of competitive forces, entities and trends so that you can contribute intelligence in support of effective BD and marketing.
- Project Guru: Your curiosity about what the firm does makes you a knowledgeable source about all projects and how they benefit our clients.
- Photography Lover: With a discerning eye, you understand how the visual documentation of our projects helps tell their story and you plan and execute a yearly plan to document our best work. You are resourceful in finding the right photographer for the job at the right price and work with the project staff to assure that each project is shown to its best advantage.
- Design Savvy: You know your way around InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Micro Office Suite, plus have a highly developed sense of design in order to communicate with architects and designers, while you work with graphic designers and writers in creating proposals, interview materials, advertising and marketing communication pieces.
- Deadline Artist: Tight deadlines don’t faze you as you work well under pressure, often while multi-tasking on several assignments. You work hard and play hard in a collaborative, creative and high energy environment.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Create Indiana marketing plans for awareness, entry into new submarkets and other initiatives that support BD growth. Manage the process and execute tasks to fulfill goals.
- Support firm leaders in crafting strategies for business development pursuits. Work with Project Executives to maximize their outreach by helping to keep them focused, organized and in touch.
- Prepare written statements of qualifications, RFP/RFQs and interview materials.
- Participate and lead interview preparation strategy sessions by organizing meetings, participating in content creation and coaching teams to success.
- Manage bi-monthly Indiana Marketing Meetings where updates of all BD activities take place. Create all reports to support this function and make sure data is entered into Deltek VantagePoint for future reference.
- Manage Marketing activities for Indiana conferences, including coordinating logistics related to booths, client receptions, presentations and social media/messaging related to the conference.
- Manage the Indiana photography for the firm by creating a yearly photography plan and then executing it by procuring photographers, coordinating all shoots with clients, and working with project architects to be sure the project photography tells the intended story in a creative and compelling manner.
- The ideal candidate will also be able to provide Communications support to keep firm in the news and awareness high with our target audiences through earned media, social media, email marketing campaigns and advertising.
EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, PR, Journalism or Marketing. Other degrees considered with demonstrated strong organizational skills including sales support.
Interest or Experience in Professional Services. Past experience with Architecture, Engineering or Construction companies preferred but not required.
Software skills in InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint and Micro Office Suite (Excel, Word)
